When the women disciples of the Lord learned from the angel / the joyous message of Thy resurrection, / they cast away the ancestral curse / and elatedly told the Apostles: / Death is overthrown! / Christ God is risen, / granting the world great mercy!

Hymn to the Theotokos, Tone IV —
The mystery of all eternity, / unknown even by angels, / through you, O Theotokos, is revealed to those on earth: / God incarnate, by union without confusion. / He voluntarily accepted the cross for us, / by which He resurrected the first-created man, / saving our souls from death.

Kontakion of the Sunday, Tone IV —
My Savior and Redeemer as God rose from the tomb and delivered the earthborn from their chains. He has shattered the gates of hell, and as Master, He has risen on the third day!

Holy Prophet Joel, Troparion Tone II —
The memory of Thy prophet Joel We celebrate today, O Lord. By his prayers, we beseech Thee,// Christ God, save our souls!

Kontakion Tone II —
Divinely eloquent prophet, Filled with the inspiration of the comforter, You revealed the enlightenment of the nations to take place in these latter days! Therefore we praise you now with faith. We celebrate your memory, crying out to you:// “Pray to Christ God on behalf of our souls!”

Holy Martyr Varus, Troparion, Tone IV —
In his suffering, O Lord,/ Thy martyr Varus received an imperishable crown from Thee our God;/ for, possessed of Thy might,/ he set at nought the tormentors and crushed the feeble audacity of the demons.// By his supplications save Thou our souls.

Kontakion of the Martyr, Tone IV —
Following Christ, O Martyr Varus,/ and draining His cup,/ thou wast crowned with the wreath of martyrdom/ and joinest chorus with the angels.// Pray thou without ceasing for our souls.

St. John, abbot of Rila, Troparion, Tone I —
Thine angelic life hath been the foundation of repentance, the prescription of compunction, the model of consolation and spiritual perfec­tion, O venerable father John, who abode in prayers, fasting and tears. Entreat Christ God in behalf of our souls.

Emulating the life of the angels, O vener­able one, forsaking all things of earth thou didst hasten to Christ; and guarding thyself with His commandments, thou wast shown to be a tower unshaken by the assaults of the enemy. Wherefore, we cry out to thee: Rejoice, O father John, thou all-radiant luminary!

With the apostles thy sound hath gone forth into all the earth;/ with the confessors thou didst endure sufferings for Christ;/ thou didst re­semble the holy hierarchs in thy preaching of the Word;/ and with the venerable hast thou shone forth in the grace of God./ Therefore, the Lord hath exalted the depths of thy humility above the heavens,/ and hath given us thy name as a source of most wondrous miracles./ Where­fore, O wonderworker, who livest in Christ forever,/ take pity in thy love upon people in misfortunes;/ and hearken unto thy children,/ who with faith call upon thee,// O righteous John, our beloved pastor.

O wonderworker, who livest in Christ for­ever,/ take pity in thy love upon people in mis­fortunes;/ hearken unto thy children who with faith call upon thee,/ expecting compassionate aid from thee,// O John of Kronstadt, our beloved pastor.

Kontakion, in Tone IV —
O father John, namesake of grace, who wast chosen by God from childhood, who in thy youth miraculously received from Him the gift of learning, and in a dream wast most gloriously called to be a priest: Entreat Christ God, that we may all be with thee in the kingdom of heaven.
