HIDE TROPARIAThe Fifth Sunday of Great Lent: Venerable Mary of Egypt, Troparion, Tone
VIII
In thee, O Mother, was carefully preserved what is according to the Image.
For thou didst take the Cross and follow Christ. By so doing thou didst teach us
to disregard the flesh, for it passes away, but to care for the soul as an
immortal thing. Therefore, St. Mary, thy spirit rejoices with the Angels.
Kontakion, Tone IV
Having escaped the fog of sin, and having illumined thy heart with the light
of penitence, O glorious one, thou didst come to Christ and didst offer to Him
His immaculate and holy Mother as a merciful intercessor. Hence thou hast found
remission for transgressions, and with the angels thou ever rejoicest.
Troparion of the Sunday, Tone V
Let us, the faithful, praise and worship the Word, / Co-eternal with the Father and the Spirit,
/ born for our salvation from the Virgin, / for He willed to be lifted up on the cross in the
flesh, / to endure death / and to raise the dead by His glorious resurrection.
Hymn to the Theotokos, Tone V
Rejoice, O impassable gate of the Lord! / Rejoice, O wall and protection of those who run to
you! / Rejoice, O unshakable refuge! / Rejoice, O Virgin Mother of your God and Creator! /
Do not cease praying for those who praise you and worship your Son. (1x)
Blessed be the name of the Lord, henceforth and forever more.
Kontakion of the Sunday, Tone V
Thou didst descend into hell, O my Savior, / shattering its gates as almighty; / resurrecting
the dead as Creator, / and destroying the sting of death. / Thou hast delivered Adam from the
curse, O Lover of Man, / and we all cry to Thee: "O Lord, save us!"
St. Mary of Egypt, Troparion, in Tone VIII
In thee, O mother, that which was created according to the image of God was
manifestly saved;/ for, accepting thy cross, thou didst follow after Christ;/
and, praying, thou didst learn to disdain the flesh,/ for thou didst transcend
it, to take care of thine immortal soul.// Wherefore, with the angels
doth thy soul rejoice, O venerable Mary.
Kontakion, in Tone IV, "Having been lifted up..."
Having fled the gloom of sin/ and illumined thine heart with the light of
repentance, O glorious one,/ thou didst go to Christ and didst bring His
all-immaculate and holy Mother to Him/ as a merciful intercessor;// hence, thou
didst find remission of thy transgressions and dost now rejoice ever with the
angels.
Another translation.
Troparion, Tone V
Enlightened by the grace of the Cross, thou wast shown forth as a radiant
lamp of repentance, dispelling the darkness of the passions, O all-holy one.
Wherefore, thou didst appear as an angel in the flesh unto the sacred Zosimas in
the wilderness. O Mary, our righteous mother, do thou intercede with Christ for
us.
Kontakion, Tone III
Once thou wast defiled with every impurity, but today through repentance thou
hast become the bride of Christ. Desiring the life of the angels, thou hast cast
down the demons with the weapon of the Cross. Wherefore, O glorious Mary, thou
wast made a bride of the Kingdom.
